Stockwell is one of the most picturesque towns in the entire Barossa Valley region. The townscape is marked by a tall church spire and silos that tower over the golden wheat fields at the bottom of the Barossa Ranges. The town was founded in 1854 by settler Samuel Stockwell who established a number of buildings next to a beautiful creek.
The town used to be on the main route to the Murray River. The hotel built massive stables with more than 20 stalls, supplying rested horses to Cobb and Co on their long crossings. The hotel still maintains its original character, presently the local hotel is still a great place for travellers to relax and have a good pub meal and a drink.
