Fernfield Wines

Rushlea Homestead was the first house built in the township of Eden Valley by founder, William Lillecrapp, in 1866. In the early 1900’s, some of the original Fernfield vineyards were constructed. Almost a century, and six generations later, the Lillecrapp’s still run the property and use the traditional methods of wine making.

  • The first class wine grapes are picked off the vine by hand. The wine is also handmade and basket pressed. Wherever there is an alternative to using machines, it is taken. This allows for the unique flavour concentration that makes Fernfield wines so extraordinary. The shiraz is crushed by the traditional foot stomping technique!
  • This ensures maximum flavour, colour and goodness.
  • The cellar door is open 7 days a week from 10am till 5pm. One of the Lillecrapp’s will be assisting you in tasting and the best selection for you.

Awards

Fernfield Wines 2004 Pridmore Shiraz recently took out Equal Top in it's category Australia Wide in Winestate Magazines 2007 New Releases. It received 5 stars and the comment about the wine was "A really classy wine with fabulous depth, drive and finish. Beautifully focused jubey/jammy fruit aromas and lovely lifted oak and long, soft tannins on the palate, with a warm alcoholic finish".

Fernfield Wines 2004 Footstompers Shiraz came a close 2nd receiving 4 1/2 stars. "Big, ripe, oaky aromas and rich, mouthfilling chocolate fruit flavours. Some nice overall complexity. Very hot in the mouth. Palate is rich, full and complete with depth, length and life".

The 2004 Juuso Merlot also took out the Top Gold and Trophy in the Barossa Wine Show last year.

Awards

Our 2003 Footstompers Shiraz recently took out Equal Top in it's category also, receiving 4 1/2 stars, in Winestates 2007 Barossa/Eden Valley Regional Tasting. They said "Dark and brooding on the nose, with a nice cedar oak lift. Generous, 'cuddly' palate. Great length and intensity of peppery fruit flavours balanced with layers of fine cedary oak". Again this is against all other Barossa Shiraz. We are very proud. Plus they are really yummy wines. Come try them
