Taking its name from the Aboriginal mission established early this century, Mission Beach comprises some half dozen communities stretching north from the Tam O'Shanter Point through South Mission, Wongaling, Mission Beach, Clump Point to Bingil Bay.

Today, Mission Beach offers a choice of eateries, boutiques and galleries as well as the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature with the scenic walks, fishing adventures, and many other attractions. However, many visitors to the area often opt to laze by the picturesque beach, relax and unwind by absorbing the laid back atmosphere.

Find private secluded coves with their own pristine beaches. Beach and rainforest walks in World Heritage Wet Tropics, white water rafting, tandem skydiving, horse riding, fishing, sailing are some popular Mission Beach activities. The ever popular annual Aquatics Festival and the monthly Monster Markets and the many water sports including visiting the Great Barrier Reef, fishing, kayaking, attract many thousands of visitors to the area annually.

Spectacular walks to Bicton Hill and Cuttens Lookout offer superb views over the "Island Coast". From here banana farming and other agricultural pursuits can be appreciated. Pineapples, paw paws, avocados and mangoes are grown in abundance. The Mission Beach area is said to be home to over 60% of the Australian butterfly population, the region is also great for spotting the rare cassowary and other endangered species.

Just of the coastline of Mission Beach lies more than 20 islands in the Great Barrier Reef System. Mission is the closest point on the Queensland coast from which to access the reef (50 minutes by boat). Clump Point at the northern end of Mission Beach is the departure point for cruises to the Great Barrier Reef, Dunk Island and day island hopping tours. Tour operators offer a great variety of tours including "tandem skydives ...what a rush".

The township is a well equipped holiday resort destination with a great variety of specialty restaurants, fun holiday shopping, medical, banking, postal and coach terminal services and facilities.
