Eubenangee Swamp National Park 

Although not part of the World Heritage Area, the freshwater Eubenangee wetlands are a very important part of the regional ecosystem. They are a remnant of vast wetlands that once would have covered much of Australia. In the dry season, waterlilies flower here, as well as rare sedges such as Eleocharis and Fimbristylis. Paperbark and lowland rainforest-fringe the swamp and wetland birds and other wildlife with spectacular views over the Bellenden Ker Range.

There is a short 1.5 kilometre walk that starts on the eastern bank of the Alice River. Follow its meandering path and the track will take you through lowland rainforest and paperbark trees before a gradual ascent to a grassy knoll. The trail becomes a mowed path here and from atop the solitary hill you have a 360 degree view of the entire surrounding swamp. If bird watching interests you, numerous hours could be passed here. The best season is when it is dry and the inland lagoons evaporate leaving Eubenangee with an abundance of bird and lilies.
