Mount Ida Firetrail 

This walk extends beyond the Great Northern Mines Walk, following the trail up to the Herberton Firetrail. At the top of the steep trail there is a turn to the left to a shorter return path, known as the Magazine Escape Trail. Continue past this turnoff onto the Mount Ida firetrail.

There are 3 distinct steep climbs and descents across the 3 peaks of Mount Ida. Many mineshafts are evident and spectacular views across Herberton and the neighbouring valleys will be seen.

Reaching the peak of Mount Ida, notice the emergence of the mountain heath vegetation. Continue to follow the firetrail, which will take to you Mowbray Road, returning you to the township.
