The small sugar town of Tully is nestled between Mt Mackay and Mt Tyson and is the centre of one of the major 27 cane growing regions which make up the Queensland Sugar Industry. Tours of the Tully Sugar Mill are conducted during the harvest season which extends from mid June to mid November each year. These tours can be arranged through the Tully Information Centre.
The tropical climate has made the bananas a major fruit crop grown in the Cardwell Shire and Tully. The Tully River district boasts Australia's largest banana plantation. Many Tropical and rare fruits are also grown in abundance and are seasonably available.
One of the most exciting attractions in Tully is the Tully Gorge situated 44 kilometres inland from the town. The Tully river is great for a cool swim or white water rafting, with the rapids and the river challenging canoeists and rafters alike. Amongst Tully's other features are Murray Falls, Mt Tyson Walk and Alligators Nest.
Located in the heart of the Great Green Way (Cairns to Townsville) with its natural abundance and diversity of tourist attractions, Tully has plenty to offer to all visitors.
