Surat is the administrative centre of the Waroo Shire with some 500 residents populating the area. Surat comes as a pleasant surprise to people travelling through. It quickly becomes visitor’s favourite stopovers once they come across the town’s quaint main street, it is the perfect place to enjoy a little country relaxation.

Situated on the beautiful banks of the Balonne River, Surat lies 80 kilometres south of Roma on the Carnarvon Highway. The region is renowned for quality wool and wheat and is also reputed for excellent beef cattle production.

Features

Balonne Aquarium is a huge freshwater fish aquarium. In the tank you'll see Murray Cod, Yellowbelly and many other freshwater fish which live in the Western Downs river systems
The Balonne River is one of the best fishing spots in the area. The Surat’s gorgeous stretch of the Balonne River is regularly restocked with Murray Cod and Yellowbelly fingerlings
Surat’s Aboriginal Bush Garden - There is a bush campsite, which is the centrepiece of the garden. The gardens also feature an eclectic range of native plants which where used by Aboriginals for food and medicine
