Kenilworth is a rich rural district in the heart of the beautiful Mary River region. The Blackall and Conondale Ranges and the Kenilworth State Forest surround the township of just under 300 people. A Tidy-Towns contest multi-winner, Kenilworth still retains its original 1920's ambience. The tree lined main street accommodates the area's main business houses, while the bucolic atmosphere of the surrounds provide bushwalking, gem fossicking and creek fishing.
Located extremely close to Kenilworth, are several forests and national parks. These are camping friendly parks and have several established and well appointed sites. Charlie Moreland Camping Area and Charlie Moreland Day Use Area are open, spacious, grassy camping areas with BBQs, picnic tables, drinking water and toilets with wheelchair access. On Booloumba Creek Road are three camping areas with a variety of facilities. Access to all of the park's camping and day-use areas involves crossing creeks which can be impassable in a 2WD after rain.
There are five designated walking trails in the park. The Mt Allan Hiking Trail, the Gold ine Walk Interpretive Trail, the Booloumba 1 Walk, the Booloumba Falls Walk and Peters Creek Walk.
Nearby, Conondale National Park covers 2126 ha of subtropical rainforest and tall wet eucalypt forest in the mountainous Conondale Range.
