Drive through the rich red hills, amble past plantations of pineapples, bananas, mangoes, lychees and avocados. Stop at the roadside and buy citrus fruit, macadamias and pecans before reaching the tiny viallge of Dagun. Quixotically described as a cute little “10-house town”, the village is the centre of a thriving and diverse agricultural sector.
Most of the activities in Dagun have been developed at the restored Dagun Station Precinct. Wander through the natural history walk, discovering examples of three different habitats to be found in the Mary Valley, from lowland scrub to rainforest. There is even a maze here made up of 16 different garden beds planted in the colours of the rainbow. A botanical garden also enriches the Precinct, giving visitors the chance to see local agricultural crops close at hand.
Just a few minutes north of Dagun is Lagoon Pocket. A tranquil area of quiet walks and beautiful views.
