Just one hour from Brisbane is Maroon, located in the heart of the Scenic Rim. Best known for Lake Maroon it is an ideal location for camping, sailing, fishing, water skiing, parasailing and boating.

Further along, Mt Maroon (965m) is one of the more impressive volcanic plugs in the Scenic Rim. The volcano features exposed steep cliff-faces and blank faces of long columnar crack-lines.

Things to do

  • Mt Barney National Park, the Upper Portals, Mt Maroon, Mt May, Mt French National Park and Main Range National Park are close at hand for bush walks are all accessed from here
  • Lake Maroon is rated as one of Queensland's best Bass fishing spots
  • Indulge in a vineyard and wine trail
  • Take a short scenic drive to nearby Lake Moogerah & Queen Mary Falls
  • See the Maroon War Memorial & Enclosure
  • Boys Town - the famous home for wayward boys closed in 2001 but still available for visits

  • Maroon is a 114km drive inland from Brisbane
  • From Surfers Paradise Maroon is a 115km drive inland
