The camping islands belonging to the Capricornia Cays National Park include Lady Musgrave Island, North West Island and Masthead Island.

Location of Lady Musgrave Island: 96km north east of Bundaberg

Coral cay with outstanding surrounding reefs, shady pisonia forest, nesting turtles and seabirds and migrating humpback whales. Sheltered lagoon anchorage.

Lady Musgrave Island is the only coral island on the Great Barrier Reef with a navigable lagoon. The Island is a true coral cay and reefwalkers will discover jewel-bright starfish, sea-urchins, clams and corals exposed at high tide. Scuba divers may come face to face with a manta ray or moray eel, and snorkellers will discover giant rainbow coloured carrot fish or coral trout.

Things to do

Between October to February turtles come ashore to lay their eggs and hatch between December to late April. Between Oct and April thousands of seabirds migrate to nest in rookeries on the uninhabited Island.

The Island is a national park and there are no shops or facilities ashore. However, camping is permitted for up to 40 people at a time. The island is closed to camping between 27th January until Easter holidays each year. Campers must take their own fresh water and food.
