In the Lost World Valley, snug within the Scenic Rim Volcano region and the dramatic mountains of Lamington National Park is Christmas Creek, Queensland newest emerging destination. Splash about in the rock pools of the Upper Albert River or the Christmas Creek, watch out for platypi, abundant bird life, koalas, wallabies and pockets of virgin rainforest. The soaring escarpment and the pristine creeks are the ideal way to beat the heat of Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
Christmas Creek is a purely nature based destination, the southern entrance to Lamington National Park (commonly referred to as the wilderness section of Lamington) is right on the doorstep. The infamous Green Mountains to Christmas Creek walk inside the park is the region’s best known attraction. The course follows the route taken by Bernard O'Reilly on his historic trek to find and rescue survivors of the Stinson Airliner crash in 1937. Along the way discover Mount Worendo, Mount Thoakban, incredible views from Point Lookout, the Stinson crash site, the rich river banks of Christmas Creek and Westray's Grave.
Although Christmas Creek is promoted as a nature lovers retreat, visitors are not completely isolated. The closest regional town is Beaudesert and the nearby village of Rathdowney is also not far away.
