The Gold Coast is a very accessible location, with plenty of public transport options, Coolangatta airport is nearby, and with only one major highway route, it is an easy drive by car.

Self Drive

  • From Melbourne, take the Hume Hwy to Sydney, then get on the Pacific Highway, which will take you all the way to the Gold Coast. Please note: the Pacific Hwy is currently undergoing major upgrades, so conditions can vary.
  • Travel times from interstate:
  • Melbourne to Gold Coast: 1840kms 22 hrs
  • Canberra to Gold Coast: 1251kms 15 hrs
  • Sydney to Gold Coast: 947kms 11.5hrs
  • Byron to Gold Coast: 85km 1hr 20mins
  • Brisbane to Gold Coast: 80km 1hr
  • By Air
  • The Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta has domestic and international flights.
  • Domestic planes travel daily from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Newcastle. Travel time to Sydney is just over 1 hour, Melbourne and Adelaide both take roughly 2.25 hours.

    • By Train
    • The Gold Coast is connected by rail to Brisbane's Roma Street and Central stations. Gold Coast railway stations are Nerang, Helensvale and Robina. Shuttle buses run from these stations to Surfers Paradise and other Gold Coast centres.

Brisbane Airport also has a regular rail service to the Gold Coast, approx 90mins travel time.

Due to a different railway structure in New South Wales and Queensland, there are no direct rail links from Sydney to the Gold Coast. However, trains run daily from Sydney to Murwillumbah, 30 mins south of Coolangatta.
