The Burrum District Museum was officially opened on International Museums Day May 17, 2006.
The Burrum District Museum incorporates the collections of the former Torbanlea Mining and Howard Museums and is run by the Burrum and District Heritage Society Inc.
The primary aim of the Museum is to collect, preserve, and exhibit items of natural and cultural significance to the Burrum District.
A particular emphasis is placed on the historical development of the townships and settlements of the Burrum District and on mining history specifically linked to the Burrum Coal Fields.
