Mundubbera has a reputation for producing choice Ellendale mandarins plus other quality citrus products. The township is the centre of a prosperous grain-growing region. Nearby Binjour and Gurgeena Plateau have some of the richest agricultural land in Queensland, with a top soil depth of 24m.
Mundubbera is an Aboriginal name for 'Meeting of the Waters'. Between April and September, orchards come into full production and they become colourful with ripening fruits and an influx of workers. Grapes, stone fruit, nuts, dairying and pig rearing are important industries. Mundubbera also has a unique industry, an insectary! 'Bugs for Bugs' produce beneficial predatory bugs for crops and agriculture cutting down the need for chemical sprays. Attractions include the Historical Museum, 'Meeting Place of the Waters' 360 degrees mural, Jone Weir, agricultural and horticultural tours and the 'Enormous Ellendale' which is a giant mandarin adding to Queensland's collection of giant-sized icons.
