One of the Brisbane city’s oldest districts is also one of its most youthful and vivacious. Galleries, designer stores and some of Brisbane’s most interesting bistros and cafes can be found here. It’s an eclectic mix and one of the most cosmopolitan quarters of Brisbane city.
At the top end, a cluster of restaurants has mushroomed around the Valley Twin Cinemas, on the corner of Brunswick Road and Barker Street. Further down, where Brunswick Street meets Merthyr Road, Merthyr Village has yet more places to eat, to relax and to watch the world go by, or find the perfect gift.
At the river end of Brunswick Street lies New Farm Park, a haven by the river, boasting an historic rose garden, jacaranda avenue and some magnificent curtain fig trees that form a unique children’s playground. The adjacent Brisbane Powerhouse Centre for Live Arts is a focus for the arts with performance spaces, gallery and dining.
