Located 8km due west of Brisbane CBD (along Milton Road) is Mount Coot-tha Forest Park and Mount Coot-tha Lookout.
The lookout has fabulous views over Greater Brisbane, the Gold Coast hinterland to the south, to the bay and Moreton and Stradbroke Islands to the east and the Glass House Mountains to the north. There are attractive picnic and BBQ spots in the reserve including those at J C Slaughter Falls and Simpson Falls. There is also a good restaurant and a café open daily for lunch and dinner.
At the foothills lies the beautiful Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. The gardens cover 53 hectares and include a Tropical Dome, Australian Plant Community Area, a Japanese Garden and over 20,000 species of plants. The Thomas Brisbane Planetarium is also located within the gardens.
