Located in Section 1 of the Larapinta Trail, Wallaby Gap is a deep, narrow passage created by a small watercourse carving through the tough gneiss before draining into Roe Creek.
This sandy creek bed is shaded by walls of red rock and is a peaceful place where Black-footed rock-wallabies live. A temporary pool inside the gap makes it a perfect spot for bird watching.
The camp ground is located about 300 metres south of Wallaby Gap. Camping is permitted only for walkers on the Larapinta Trail.
Further Information
Vehicle access to the camping ground is for Larapinta Trail walkers only and a key is available from the Visitor Information Centre on Gregory Terrace in Alice Springs to access the locked gate. Drop off and pick up only.
Further Information
Section 1 of the Larapinta Trail is graded as medium - a narrow track which may be rough in places, with some climbing and descending, suitable for people who walk regularly.
