Jerilderie, on the banks of the Billabong Creek, is a pleasant location to take a break while travelling the Newell Highway. Also known as the start of the Kidman Way, its lovely parks and an attractive man-made lake, tempt the weary traveller. Jerilderie is famous for wool, rice, wheat, canola, onions, tomatoes and grapes to name just a few of the diverse range of crops grown in this irrigation area. Jerilderie is currently recognised for producing 24% of the national tomato crop.
Although only a relatively small community in terms of population, the town boasts an 18 hole grass green golf course, bowling greens, a lake for water sports, six tennis courts, a modern indoor sports complex and swimming pool, ample park land and a turf track race course.
A miniature steam rail track nestled along the banks of the Billabong Creek near Horgan’s Walk, a 1.8km nature walk attracts may visitors. Check out the Ned Kelly Post Office and other sites that Ned visited in the town.
