Barham is the largest town in Wakool Shire and is situated in New South Wales. Its twin town Koondrook is perched on the opposite side of the Murray River and is part of Victoria. Surrounded by rich river flats and picturesque red sand hills, Barham has thriving timber, dairying and citrus fruit industries.
In 1904 the history of Barham changed forever when a lift bridge was constructed allowing traffic to access the town. The bridge has a central section that is raised to allow paddle steamers to pass on the way back and forth to Echuca. It is one of the oldest surviving bridges on the river.
Not surprisingly activities in Barham are based around the iconic Murray River. Other note worthy locations include Barham lake complex - 4 interconnected lakes spread over 16 ha, a series of well appointed parks, the Koondrook state forest and a series of Aboriginal middens dotted around the countryside.
