Dural is situated 35 km northwest of the Sydney CBD near Baulkham Hills.
The indigenous inhabitants of the Dural region were the Darug tribe. The Darug were the keepers of the land now known as the Greater Sydney region. The name Dural came from Darug dialect. "Dooral Dooral"means 'a smoking tree', a word assumed to have been used when the early settlers burnt the stumps of trees after they had been felled.
For the majority of its history, Dural was utilised for timber cutting and fruit growing. In the past, the area supplied much of Sydney’s produce demand and in the 20th Century built a reputation around the excellent quality of its nurseries.
The village offers a perfect rural experience, close to a major city. Dural has a range of attractions including: fruit orchards, an array of nurseries, art and craft galleries and hobby farms.
Dural is an perfect location for a scenic drive with great opportunities for romantic vistas with roadside stalls of fresh flowers and produce, all providing for a rewarding experience.
