Marrickville is "the birthplace of multiculturalism is Australia" with people from about 140 different nationalities living in the area. Main nationalities represented are Vietnamese, Greek, Chinese, Portuguese and Lebanese.
Having once been one of Sydney's primary industrial suburbs, Marrickville has seen a reduction of its local manufacturing industry in the recent years and is increasingly becoming one the more popular residential suburbs of Sydney's Inner West.
