Centennial Park

Overview
Bookmark

On the Eastern end of Oxford Street is a glorious 195 hectare park - the perfect place to relax, be active, and catch a glimpse of the natural Australian habitat. A grand park in the European tradition, its grounds include formal gardens, ponds, grand avenues, statues, heritage buildings and sporting fields.

The combination of bush, open spaces, cycle tracks and water makes it a perfect place to rollerblade, horse ride, fly a kite, play chess, cycle, play baseball, picnic and walk the dog. It was created in the 1880s as part of celebrations to commemorate the arrival of the First Fleet.

Centennial Park remains a people's park, a beautiful recreation area in the middle of Sydney's densely populated Eastern Suburbs. There are tree-lined avenue walks, horse and cycle tracks with horse and cycle hire outlets nearby. Shady picnic and barbecue areas cater for larger groups while the reed fringed ponds an ideal setting for observing water birds of just sitting and relaxing.
