Set in ten hectares of its original 206 hectares, Vaucluse House survives with house, stables and laundry, within parklands including pleasure gardens, kitchen garden and even a harbour beach.
From 1827 to 1862, this gothic style mansion was home to famous explorer William Charles Wentworth, his wife Sarah and their large family. Vaucluse House paints a picture of the social aspirations and lifestyles of the Wentworths and of the servants, both convict and free, who lived and worked there. The interiors include original Wentworth pieces together with furniture, furnishings and collections of the early to mid 19th century.
The gift shop specialises in garden publications and unique gift ideas. The Vaucluse House Tearooms are open during museum hours for light meals and refreshments.
