Shoalhaven is situated on the South Coast of New South Wales. The wine region is centred around the main towns of Ulladulla, Nowra and Berry.
The Shoalhaven Wine Region is thriving on the already flourishing tourism industry of the area. The South Coast is known for it's superb surfing beaches and more recently, it's emerging wineries and vineyards. The wineries have improved the region with 14 cellar doors opening at many estates.
The climate is influenced by the regions proximity to the ocean. There are cool sea breezes, high humidity and summer rainfall.
Alexander Berry planted the first vines in the region in the 1820’s. The township of Berry was subsequently named after him. The modern era of viticulture was established in the 1990's, with numerous wineries and vineyards being foundered in the years thereafter.
There are a few festivals that showcase the regions produce. These include The Ulladulla Food and Wine Festival, The Berry Show and The Shoalhaven Coast Wine Festival. All are held annually.
