Tooma 

Tooma is a small community of just over 100 people, situated in the eastern part of the Riverina district of NSW. It’s closest neighbours are Tumbarumba, Welaregang, Khancoban and the Victorian border. Tooma is linked by sealed secondary roads to the Victorian town of Corryong.

The township itself is in the valley of the Tooma River, not far from where the Tooma and Murray River join. This is a nature lovers - especially those who are interested in Alpine scenery - paradise. A particularly scenic series of valleys make up the Tooma region, in which there are a number of drives. The route between Tooma and Khancoban is particularly attractive.

Close by is Tooma Reservoir, a man made lake on the Tooma River which stores water for the Tumut One Power Station. There are some nice photo or fishing opportunities here. A two hour drive away is Kosciuszko, one of the best known national parks in Australia as well as Thredbo and Perisher Blue, premier ski resorts.

Things to do

• Play golf at nearby Welaregang Golf Course
• Hike from Charlotte Pass to Mount Kosciuszko
• Fish for Brown Trout or Rainbow Trout in the Tooma Reservoir. Power boating is also permitted with no restrictions. A boat ramp is provided but a 4x4 may be needed in low water levels
• Drive the 42km to Jingellic along the Upper Murray
• Head up to Khancoban and white water raft the source of the Murray
• Celebrate the heritage of the high country in April at The Man from Snowy River festival in Corryong
• Pop in to the quaint Tooma Inn and have a meal
• Visit the Blowering Dam Trout Hatchery, the largest in Australia at Tumut 100km away
