In the far south east part of the Riverina is the rural community of Welaregang. It is situated about 11 kilometres south west from the town of Tooma, 15 kilometres south east from Ournie and has a population of around 100 people. The bloodline of the community are the large stations and numerous other grazing properties dotted around the area. Nestled in the valley of the Upper Murray, the area is only 3 kilometres from the Murray River and the border of Victoria.
The isolation of the area leaves little to do in the way of established activities, but it does make a good base to explore the Upper Murray and the nearby national parks. The local Golf Club is a pleasant way to while away a few hours. It consists of a 9 hole sand course, cut directly into the surrounding landscape.
