Bredbo has always been a favoured stopping point for travellers, not all of who were within the law. During the Kiandra gold rush, Bredbo became a safe haven from bushrangers and an overnight stop for the gold coach. Today Bredbo still offers travellers warm and friendly welcomes and genuine country hospitality.
The village boasts a number of historic buildings, one of which is the Bredbo Inn. This was the original stagecoach stop on the way to the South Coast or Snowy Mountains and later a stop for railway travellers.
Gold was discovered in the area in the late 1800s and a field proclaimed along the Bredbo River was worked until 1921. In the 1930s a geological survey was undertaken and a mine opened and operated until 1942.
Today there are several lovely shops in the small township. The Bredbo Cottage boasts a fine selection of imported Christmas decorations. The Bredbo Pizzeria makes superb wood-fired pizzas, which can be enjoyed overlooking Settin Estate vineyards. The Bredbo Pancake Parlour, once the General Store, has tasty crepes, pancakes and hotcakes.
