16km east of Griffith in the Riverina district of New South Wales is the little town of Yenda. The township itself has a population of just over 1,000 people who rely on agriculture and viticulture for income.
Yenda is well covered by vineyards, which produce close to 70% of the wine for New South Wales. Other industries include rice, stone and citrus fruits, vegetables, and poultry.
Based here is Casella Winery, one of the largest in Australia. The winery is capable of crushing 120,000 tonnes of grapes during any one vintage, and over 30,000 bottles per hour.
Yenda is at the edge of the 8360ha Cocoparra National Park. Spectacular gorges, waterfalls, wonderful walks to lofty lookouts all pay tribute to this scenic wonderland. Close by, Binya State Forest also claims attention for many as it has recently been declared open to game shooters.
