The Lions Road between Kyogle and Beaudesert is a community funded tourist route through the McPherson Range, which is actually 30km shorter than the Summerland Way – Mt Lindesay Hwy.
Since 1932 the people of the Northern Rivers wanted a direct route to Brisbane via Richmond Gap. When the project was rejected by the NSW Government in 1969, the Kyogle Lions Club became involved in building the road as a community development project.
Completed in the early 70’s, and upgraded several times since, the road is a world class scenic route through the exquisite Border Ranges National Park, and skirting the historic Spiral Loop railway line.
The Spiral Loop Lookout is a popular picnic spot adjacent to Lions Road with spectacular views of Grady’s Creek valley and the unique spiral rail loop.
