The small village of Nymboida is located on the Grafton to Armidale Rd. The area is famous for having one of Australia’s most exciting river courses for white water rafting and canoeing and shrouded with rainforest and untouched bushland of the Nymboi-Binderay National Park, most of which is inaccessible by road or walking trail. The hydroelectric power station located at Nymboida pumps water from the Nymboida River and then releases it into the Goolang Creek providing the Grade III and IV rapids, which are used in state, national and international competitions.
There is equipment hire available at the Nymboida Canoe Centre. There are several tour operators on the Nymboida River who offer 1-4 day guided rafting tours. There is camping and cabin accommodation available adjacent to Goolang Creek.
As well as water sports on the River, there are many other activities including platypus viewing, bush walks, abseiling, trail rides and camping.
