Byron Bay

Located on Australia’s most easterly point, Byron Bay is well known for its premier music festivals, amazing beaches, imposing lighthouse, lush hinterland, and alternate healing practices.

Drawn to the area's relaxed lifestyle; a massive migration of people has occurred in the last 10 years, transforming it into a centre for arts, education, alternative health, surfing, music and food. Byron has come a long way from its past as a base for dairy farms and a whaling station.

It’s a town where trendy executives, wealthy tourists, enlightened yoga masters, hippies and beer swilling backpackers co-exist in one of the nation’s most beautiful settings. The temperate climate averages 21-28°C in summer and around 15-21°C in winter.

For the adventurous, you can try hang-gliding, rock climbing, mountain biking, learn to surf, or go sea kayaking; while those after a more relaxed pace can unwind on the vast stretches of beach or browse through the town’s many unique stores.

The beauty of Byron is that there’s so much to do after a long day lounging on the beach. Tucked away in small alleyways, perched overlooking the waterfront and lining the streets in a blaze of colour you’ll find a superb range of award-winning restaurants and bars to tempt your tastebuds.

From August to October you may be lucky enough to spot the passing humpback whales on their annual migration. Cape Byron is a marine national park, and provides an important habitat for many species of dolphins, fish, seabirds and plants. It also includes areas of significance to local aborigines.

Byron and surrounds host a diverse range of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets, from luxurious 5 star resorts to budget motels, beachside caravan parks and backpacker hostels.
