The Manning River is located on the north coast of New South Wales passing through the towns of Taree and Wingham and connecting to the Pacific Ocean. The river is rare because it is Australia's only river delta system featuring two river entrances at Harrington and Old Bar on the coastline.
The river is a very popular spot with tourists and locals alike as it offers 150km of navigable waterways in which to enjoy boating, water sports such as water skiing and jet skiing as well as fishing. The Manning River was deemed a recreational fishing area in 2001 with 150km of saltwater estuary and 1500km of fresh water in the Manning River system.
Historically, the Manning River was the economic lifeblood of the Mid North Coast region, being used as a transportation link for timber and agricultural products to ports in Sydney. Presently, its importance is more to do with environmental and recreational tourism offering local residents and visitors the opportunity to use and enjoy the river for leisure activities.
The Manning River is ideal for exploring either from your own personal boat or a cruise. One of the main features of the Manning River is its peace and tranquillity. A trip to the Manning Valley is not complete without enjoying the recreational delights of this rare river system.
