Clinging on to the sands of the awe inspiring Stockton Sand Dunes is the shifting shanty residence of Tin City. Living in these tin shacks, in desert like conditions are the resilient town folk. These sturdy folk have been battling the wind elements for over fifty years. With the sand advancing one metre per year they band together into digging shifts, toiling around the clock to save their shacks from being buried. The wind shifts do have a plus, as recent dunal movement has unearthed some long forgotten huts. Sadly, according to the Department of Land and Water Conservation, no further shacks are allowed to be built.
The water near Tin City is referred to as Coca Cola. Dig a small well and watch it quickly fill with dark liquid that supposedly tastes as pure as rainwater.
