Tuncurry is the nothern town of the twin towns of Forster Tuncurry. Tuncurry lies between the beautiful Wallis Lake (famous for its oysters and fishing) and the Pacific Ocean. Tuncurry is a great place for a holiday offering extensive recreational waterways and fabulous surfing beaches due to it's proximity to the Myall Lakes river system just to the south. Tuncurry is also a perfect spot for deep sea, beach, rock, lake or spearfishing. Tuncurry along with Forster, host the second largest fishing district in New South Wales. Aptly, Tuncurry means "plenty fish" or "good fishing place" in the local Worimi language. The Aboriginals of the area gave the town its name in 1875, as it was previously know as North-Forster.
Tuncurry rockpool is very popular with children and adults and now has wheelchair access to the waters edge. The area features and abundance of fine food, art, museums, galleries. Dolphin watching cruises, diving and sailing charters, 4WD tours, bush and beach walks are available for visitor satisfaction. Tuncurry is also renowned for the huge succulent oysters that are exported all over the world.
