Located 530 km north of Sydney at the mouth of the Bellinger and Kalang Rivers, Urunga is the largest town in the Bellingen Shire. It is a tranquil, untouched town with clean beaches and pristine waterways surrounded by lush green farmlands. Urunga is a popular spot for fishing, golf and bowls and has beautiful walks around the foreshores.
The towns name ‘Urunga’ is reputedly an Aboriginal word meaning 'long white sands'. It also boasts quiet parks such as the Morgo Street Reserve equipped with picnic facilities. Take a stroll along the footbridge to Urunga Lagoon and then out to the ocean and beaches.
This pleasant, sleepy little place is popular with retirees as it’s bypassed by the Pacific Highway giving it a charming old world, untouched feeling. However, it has a fully serviced shopping centre with a sizeable Golf and Sports Club, good cafes and restaurants. Urunga offers a wide range of accommodation from motels and holiday cabins to riverfront caravan parks.
Take the family for a seaside holiday or getaway for a relaxed weekend for the two of you. It can be the ideal location from which to enjoy the best of both the coastal and hinterland worlds of the Coffs Coast. Explore the inland beauty of the Coffs Hinterland before returning back to your perfect seaside hamlet.
