Set in the heart of the Bellinger Valley, surrounded by lush hills and deep green rivers is the gorgeous town of Bellingen. This small community has quickly gained a reputation for being the arts and crafts capital of the area. A local monthly market is proof of the exceptional talent of the towns craftspeople and artists.
The market-style main street is a quaint mix of traditional general stores, colonial architecture and cosy eateries. The local pub has been elegantly restored with alfresco dining. In the weekends the whole town spills out of its doors, enjoying the live music.
Grap a swimsuit or a tyre and head out to the Bellinger River, a smooth current will take you on a gentle ride. Glide past Bellingen Island to see the colony of 40 000 bats. Further afield are Cathedral or Dorrigo National Parks filled with interesting rock formations and wild native life.
There are three major festivals held in Bellingen. The Bellingen Jazz & Blues Festival is held on the third weekend of August. The Stamping Ground Dance Festival held mid January and the Bellingen Global Carnival on the first weekend of October.
