Overview

The Perry Sandhills supposedly originated after an ice age over 40,000 years ago. The undulating slopes and grooves are formed by wind erosion over thousands of years. Skeleton remains of giant mega-fauna including kangaroos, lions, emus and wombats have been found buried in the soft sand. Replicas of these animals are now on show at the Pioneer Museum in Wentworth. Aboriginal tribes used this area to camp and hunt. As the sands drift more and more history, remains and evidence is discovered. The sandhills were used as a bombing range during WWII.
