Formerly known as Mootwingee National Park, Mutawintji National Park is located in semi-arid lands in Outback New South Wales. The park contains the broken back of an ancient mountain range. Known for its colourful gorges, Aboriginal rock art, and creek beds lined with red gums, it was handed back to its traditional owners in 1998 and is held on their behalf by the Mutawintji Local Aboriginal Land Council.

  • View Aboriginal heritage and hear how the features of the landscape in and around Mutawintji were created on a guided tour of Mutawintji Historic Site with a traditional owner
  • Take a hike! The park has many walks, from a short easy stroll to overnight hikes
  • Camp under the stars at the Homestead Creek Campground
  • Be inspired by amazing gorges, ephemeral creeks & waterholes
  • Sit and relax at one of the sheltered picnic areas in the park
  • Enjoy the prolific birdlife of the park. More than 150 species have been recorded including the rare Hall’s babbler
  • Learn about the geology of the area and the major palaeontologic significance
