Formerly known as Mootwingee National Park, Mutawintji National Park is located in semi-arid lands in Outback New South Wales. The park contains the broken back of an ancient mountain range. Known for its colourful gorges, Aboriginal rock art, and creek beds lined with red gums, it was handed back to its traditional owners in 1998 and is held on their behalf by the Mutawintji Local Aboriginal Land Council.
