Established in 1904 Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery is the oldest regional art gallery in New South Wales. It is housed in one of Broken Hill’s original heritage buildings, Sully’s Emporium, a former hardware store that operated from 1885 – 1985. Located in Argent Street, in the heart of Broken Hill, the beautifully restored building displays the City of Broken Hill’s art collection and a quality program of temporary exhibitions by local, state, national and international artists, and touring exhibitions. The exhibition program also includes the Gallery’s annual acquisitive works on paper awards, the 'Outback Art Prize'. Since it began in 1994, the 'Outback Art Prize' consistently attracts a high standard of entries from artists across the country, that reflect the spirit, beauty and diversity of the Australian outback. For details of current exhibitions please contact the Gallery.
