Lambton is an old suburb of Newcastle located 15 - 20 mins west of the city. The suburb is surrounded by the suburbs of New Lambton, North Lambton and New Lambton Heights.
Originally a coal-mining township, Lambton was a Municipality. Lambton boasted the King's Theatre, which still operated into the 1980s.
There are many heritage sites to see as Lambton has a rich history. In 1901 there was a Music Hall, Fire Brigade, Miners' Institute, 14 churches, a Post, Telegraph and Money Order Office, Court House, a Savings Bank, , Council Chambers, and fine public schools.
One of the biggest attractions of the suburb is the renowned Lambton Park. The park has a 19th century bandstand (The Rotunda), bowling greens, childrens play area, tennis courts, and beautiful gardens for picnicking.
