Mayfield is one of the oldest suburbs in Newcastle, only 6km from the CBD. Its boundaries are the Hunter River to the north, the Great Northern Railway to the south, the railway lines to Newcastle harbour on the east, and Newcastle University to the west.
Today, Mayfield is the most culturally diverse suburb in Newcastle. There are also rich heritage features with historic Victorian Houses and industrial landmarks. There are old steelworks, and rail and shipping remnants.
