The construction of Newcastle Ocean Baths began in 1910 and were opened in 1918. In 1922 work began on constructing the pavilion.
A huge map of the world was etched into the floor of the children's pool next to the main facility and in a storm in 1974 the map has been slightly damaged.
This facility is a popular swimming hole all year round, and also hosts the summer cinema through the warmer months for the public to enjoy.
