Horse lovers take note - Scone is officially known as the horse capital of Australia and is reputed to be the second biggest horse-breeding town in the world! The Scone Horse Festival in May reflects this over 10 days of rodeos, street parades and stock sales, coming before the massive six week Hunter Horse Expo in September.
Situated in the Upper Hunter Valley, Scone is home to an award winning Racecourse, over 65 horse studs, idyllic Burning Mountain, the popular Lake Glenbawn and many more unique and diverse attractions.
Scone is home to three award winning vineyards that are established in the viticulture industry. These are Tyrell’s Lake Glenbawn, Birnam Wood and Winbourne Wines. Like all of the cellar doors in the area, tastings are available at specific times during the year.
The Australian Stock Horse Society have their a museum that is open on weekdays between 9am - 5pm. Other attractions include the town's old jails and courthouses, heritage parks, buildings and nearby winery.
