Hexham is a quiet town on the bank of the Hunter River. Around fifteen kilometres west of Newcastle, Hexham provides a sleepy getaway from all the hustle of city and coastal life.

Settlement at Hexham in the 1820s saw it named after the market town of Hexham, England with both towns being near to a Newcastle. With a common history many of the coal miners from Newcastle Upon Tyne in Northumberland England moved to New South Wales at the time of the pioneers.
