West Wyalong is a convenient travellers stopover for those driving between Melbourne and Brisbane as it is located at the juncture of two major highways, the Mid Western and Newell Highway.
The town is a major centre in the Bland Shire, which is one of the NSW's most productive agricultural shires, where wheat, wool, pigs, eucalyptus oil, sawmills, farm machinery, and a growing tourism sector are the staples of the local economy.
West Wyalong still portrays the bygone gold era with historic buildings, shop facades and verandahs in the main street. The West Wyalong Show is held in September.
