Forbes, a former gold mining town, is situated along the Lachlan River, in the heart of the Lachlan Valley and is the centre of one of the richest primary producing areas of the State. The town and district is not just rich in agriculture but also rich in history. Many unique features make the town appealing to visitors, including the tranquillity of Lake Forbes, parklands and historic buildings.

The town is well renown for it's beautiful parks and picnic spots especially around Lake Forbes and the Lachlan River giving tourists and locals plenty of opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities such as Hot air ballooning.

Excellent dining will have you 'tossing a coin' in deciding which restaurant or eating house you will try as the local cuisine is of a high standard. Accommodation is made up of seven Motels, seven Hotels, four Caravan Parks, three Bed and Breakfasts and two Farm Stays/Guest Houses, and is of the highest standard.

• The town boasts many attractions and historical sites, such as the Albion Hotel (formerly Cobb & Co Stage Coach stop). There are tunnels situated under the Hotel, which were used during the gold rush to convey gold and money to and from the banks to avoid the chance of being robbed. These will open soon as a major tourist attraction.
