Sutton Forest is one of the more opulent areas of the Southern Highlands of NSW. The township is symbolised by the typically English architecture, flora and historic way of life.
Sutton Forest has a significant place in early Australian history, being one of the first settlements (1820s) in the new lands discovered outside the colony of Sydney. There are a few interesting buildings to see such as the impressive country estate mansions from a former era. Very little of the surrounding countryside has been altered in the 170 years since colonial farmers and graziers discovered the lush pastures and rolling fields that resembled the English countryside.
Reminders of this early history also lie in the cemeteries, look for the graves of the bushranger and troopers at All Saints, and of other early settlers at St. Patrick's c.1880 - although the graveyard is earlier.
