When it was first built Burrinjuck Dam was ranked as one of the world's greatest dams. The dam was completed in 1927 and supplied water to the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. Further work to the dam in 2001 made it able to handle the largest possible flood - one that would be expected to occur, on average, only once in 100,000 years.
