The Canberra District is a small but exciting wine region, full of boutique wineries and passionate winemakers. The District's white varieties are consistently performing well in the continental climate, though certain winemakers are revealing that red varieties also have good regional potential.
The region has hot dry summers, wet springs and cool winters. Most rain falls in spring and autumns are generally very dry. Temperatures vary within the region based on an elevation range of between 500 and 800m.
Tourism is serving the industry well in this region, being so close to Canberra. BRL Hardy established the Kamberra Wine Tourism Complex. This complex sells Canberra District wines as well as having its own vineyard and winery. The centre includes a restaurant and function facilities.
The Canberra District is renowned for it's consistently performing white varieties such as Chardonnay and Riesling, the region is also producing fine red varieties with a harvest from late March to early May.
